Sometimes, you aren't in the mood to sit in a chair by the pool all weekend. I get it.
I have friends who have never "lounged" on vacation. Their social media posts are full of photos and go-pro videos of them boogie boarding and skiing and hiking and stalking wild game. I suppose this blog is dedicated to them, especially if they are heading to our part of Kentucky Lake.
First of all, you know where to make overnight reservations. That way, when you finally get tired, you have an awesome place to sleep with free breakfast and lattes.
You know I'm going to send you to Maggie's Jungle Golf on Friday afternoon. It's right across the street, it's economical and family-friendly, and where else can you see camels and white peacocks free-roaming in this part of Kentucky? (Get a shaved ice to cool off while you're there.)
You've got to eat - so head to Draffenville to have dinner with my neighbor at her restaurant, Popi's - you must have the Volcano shrimp, and don't leave without the Banoffee pie. Don't eat too much, because you want to be able to do some twilight swimming at our pool! (It's heated and open til 9 pm.)
On Saturday, plan to do some early morning kayaking or paddleboarding. Then rent a boat and spend the day on the water fishing or exploring. Our friends at Kentucky Dam Marina can hook you up with all things boat - just one mile down the road. They also have tube rentals so you can pull the kids all over the cove at Sledd Creek. Boat over to Moors Marina and have lunch at Ralph's - you can dock your boat there and walk up.
Dinner on the water, anyone? Head to The Wake Club (but make reservations on Open Table first) and enjoy live music and excellent food. I like to ask the bartender to surprise me with a fruity mocktail, and she never disappoints.
For you hikers out there - set your alarm on Sunday morning and see our beautiful lake area on foot. Maybe even pack a picnic lunch! Then, take the kids on a horseback riding adventure. Finally - explore Land Between The Lakes with the fam.
Now everyone is tired and the bad news is that you're all out of time. But the good news is that there's a lot more to do so you have to come back. We'll have your pillows fluffed and ready for you.
