Y'all, my sons-in-law Tyler and Coy love to fish, and when they talk gear, I listen. So when they told me Kentucky Lake Outdoors is the best one-stop shop for anything hunting or fishing around here, I believed them immediately — and now I'm passing it along to you.
If you're planning a guys' fishing weekend at Kentucky Lake, here's how we try to make it easy on you from the second you pull in.
Real fishermen don't want to sit around waiting on a room while the fish are biting, so if you land at the Inn hours before check-in with a boat in tow, give us a call and we'll do what we can to get you in early.
Boat and trailer parking is ample right here on property, so you're not circling the lot trying to find a spot big enough. Let us know when you reserve, because several of our rooms have enough parking that you don't have to unhook. And if you're running trolling motor batteries, we've got exterior electrical access so you can charge overnight without hauling a battery through the lobby.
We're about a mile from Kentucky Dam Marina, so however early "up before sunrise" means to you, you're not driving far to get there. Ask around and most locals will tell you that first hour before the sun fully clears the treeline is your best bet — the fish tend to agree. Although I've never spoken to a fish, and I rarely see "that first hour before the sun."
Need bait or a last-minute rig before you head out? Head across the street to the liquor store — yes, really, they carry live bait too, so you can grab your bait and a cold one for after the trip in the same stop. Genuinely one of my favorite "only at the lake" combinations.
And if it's real gear you're after — rods, reels, tackle, anything for hunting too — Tyler and Coy will tell you to go straight to Kentucky Lake Outdoors. It's locally owned, it's got about as big a selection as you'll find anywhere near the lake, and the staff actually knows what they're talking about, which matters when you're trying to figure out what the fish are hitting that week.
Come back with a cooler full of fish? We've got you there too — bagged ice is available 24 hours a day in our vending area for two dollars a bag, so you're not stuck hunting for a gas station open at 5am.
Kitchenettes in every room mean you don't have to go anywhere else once you're back — just crash, and get up early to do it all again tomorrow. And if the boat needs a cleanup after a long day, just ask — we keep old towels on hand and can have a bucket of them sent to your room.
This is about as no-fuss as a fishing trip gets — early starts, close water, and a place to land at the end of the day that doesn't ask anything of you.
