Y'all, if you've stayed with us more than once, you've probably heard me mention Kentucky Dam Marina — it's a mile down the road, and I bring it up so much I probably should've written this a long time ago. So today, let's talk about the whole area: Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park and Kentucky Dam Marina, because between the two of them, there's a lot more going on than most people realize.
Let’s start with the park itself. Kentucky Dam Village State Park has been part of this lake for a long time now — the land was originally used to house the workers who built Kentucky Dam, and the park has been welcoming visitors ever since. That kind of longevity means the lake views out there have been drawing people back to the area for generations, and once you see the water from that shoreline, you'll understand why.
If you like to move around outside, there are walking and biking trails winding through the park — easy enough for an after-breakfast stroll or a real workout, depending on your mood. And if you're the sandy-beach type, they've got one of those too — a real public beach right on Kentucky Lake, which isn't something every spot around here can say. Planning something bigger than a weekend trip? The park's convention center is available to rent, and it's a solid option if you'r e coordinating a wedding, a meeting, or an event that needs real indoor space and not just a pavilion – there’s space for up to 500 people! And when you get hungry, Harbor Lights Restaurant is right there on-site, full bar included — so whether you want dinner with a lake view or just a drink to end the day, it's covered.
Here's a sweet one most folks don't know about — during the summer, there are Sunday morning church services held right at the marina. It's the kind of small-town, lake-community touch that tells you a lot about this place.
Now let's talk about Kentucky Dam Marina itself, because I really can't say "just a mile from the Inn" enough. If you're not bringing your own boat, they've got rentals ready to go, and if you are, there are transient slips available. Their marina store is stocked with supplies you'd actually need out there — not just souvenirs — and the fuel docks mean you're not making an extra stop before you get out on the water.
One more thing while we're on the subject — the golf course at Kentucky Dam Village is worth knowing about, too. It opened back in 1950 and was designed by Perry Maxwell, a Kentucky native who's considered one of the great golf course architects of his era. If you play, that's a fun bit of history to tee off with.
And if you're flying in, there's a small airport right there too — so between the marina, the golf course, and the airport, Kentucky Dam Village covers a lot of ground.
