“In Western Kentucky, tobacco has always been a part of farming operations. In the fall, when tobacco is being cured, you may drive by barns that appear to be ‘smoking’. Don’t call the fire department just yet - that’s just part of the process! Another method used by growers is the ‘air curing’ method which allows for circulation around the plant as it dries.”
When I was growing up, we often made the trip from the Missouri bootheel over to Mayfield to visit my grandparents. I remember scenes exactly like this from those trips - and yes, there were lots of smoking barns. That's why I knew that this photo had to be included somewhere at the Inn. Find it in room 204!
