Fall Fun Around the Lake!

I love fall at the lake just as much as I love summer.

There. I said it.

I'd love to say it's because the weather gets cooler, but that would be a lie. It stays hot here until the end of October and then on Halloween it suddenly drops below freezing at the exact moment your kids put on their costumes. That's just how it goes. I love fall at Kentucky Lake because there are always lots of fun things to do that never get planned for summer because people are too busy doing lake things.

Our heated pools stay open until fall break, so you know that staying here will be awesome. (I've talked Sweet Thing into putting in a hot tub so stay tuned for that.) But what else can you do around here? Keep reading, friends.

Have you been to Poca Terra Winery? During the peak season, they have Relax & Re-Wine events - and the last one of the year is on August 16 from 6-9 pm. You do need tickets to attend - there's live music and a food truck, and you MUST have the Pinot Grigio. Maybe schedule a weekend tasting with friends so you can try ALL the wines....

Next - Labor Day weekend. We're a sponsor for the first ever Kentucky Dam 5K Glow Run - the after party is here with a food truck and mocktails. Not into physical fitness? The perfect dinner-and-a-movie combo is at the Calvert Drive-In. Seriously, y'all, those cheeseburgers are yum, and guess what's showing that weekend!? JAWS. Can you believe that movie is fifty years old??? On Saturday, hit up the Benton Farmer's Market bright and early to see what local vendors have to offer. (They're open every Saturday morning from May - October!) The Arts & Crafts Festival in Grand Rivers, also on Labor Day weekend, is one of my favorite events because there are so many cool vendors to choose from. (Look out because you may head home with patio furniture - ask me how I know.) After a weekend of shopping and swimming, there's a fireworks show at Venture River at dusk on Sunday, August 31. Labor Day fireworks are just like July 4 fireworks, only with less mosquitoes. You're welcome.

Ever heard of a Corn Moon? Me neither. But you can paddle under one on September 6 if you show up around 6:30 pm. Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park always has fun events planned! Get the deets here

Let's skip ahead to September 13 - grab your lawn chairs and head to downtown Benton for the Car Cruise In with a concert by the Homemade Jam Band. Love bluegrass music? Come see that same band at the Lakehouse Inn on September 26 - Burgers on Wheels will be here serving up dinner.

For an evening of relaxation and meditation, join us at the Glow Float/Sound Bath on September 16 at the Inn - you do need to pre-register for this event. We have plenty of mats for floating - or you can chill in a deck chair if you're not a water person.

Finally, the Calvert City Fall Paddle-Up is on October 4 at 8 am. Bring your kayak, canoe (or rent one at Kentucky Dam Marina) and join the group for a scenic trip from Sledd Creek to the Dam (it's family friendly, so bring the kids). When you're done, hit up the River Folk Fest at Calvert City's Memorial Park for a day full of food and Americana music. Do you hear the banjoes?
