Y'all, I'll be honest — you probably won’t catch me on a bike. But if that's your thing, I want to introduce you to one of the best-kept secrets around here: the Calvert City Greenway.
It's a smooth, paved trail that runs 9.4 miles out and back, starting at 5th Avenue in downtown Calvert City and heading all the way out to Kentucky Lake. The asphalt is wide and well-kept — plenty of room for bikes, walkers, runners AND golf carts to share the space without anybody feeling crowded. Most of the trail is flat and easy as it gets, which makes this one a good pick even if you're riding with kids or you're just easing back into biking after a long winter. There are covered benches scattered along the route too, so if you need to catch your breath for a minute, you've got plenty of spots to do it.
If you want to stretch the ride out even further, the path connects to the Moneymaker Trail, so ambitious riders have room to add extra miles without ever getting in the car.
One more thing people love about this trail — it's genuinely easygoing. Dogs are welcome as long as they're leashed, and a good stretch near the Calvert City end is wheelchair and stroller friendly, so it's not just for the serious cyclists in the family. I see tons of golf carts riding around that section, enjoying the day.
If you’re having one of those "why would you drive when you could ride" kind of days at the lake, come on out, pedal (or cruise) at whatever pace feels right, and let Kentucky Lake be the reward waiting at the end of the trail.
See y'all at the lake!
