John Toras, the Man of Stainless Steel

John Toras is a Marshall County transplant and wow – can he create some art! I had admired some of his pieces at Discovery Park of America in Union City – and I was so excited to find out that he lived at Kentucky Lake. I called and then visited his shop to talk to him about some of the things I wanted to do while renovating and he was all Inn!

As a nod to several generations of fishermen who loved the Bel-Air, John made a steel fish for the lobby. It doesn’t sing like Big Mouth Billy Bass, but I love how it looks at the top of the arch – it’s so detailed! Out back, one of his custom kinetic wind sculptures marks our “No Prop Zone” by the pool – with old props as the base and sailboats that race to nowhere. There’s also a fish whirly-gig hanging in the game area. Kentucky Lake is home to so many creative artists – I wish I had ten lobbies so I could feature them all! He’s old school, so call him at 513-875-2905 if you want something.
