“Tell Me About this Dam Photo” (Room 302)
“Construction of Kentucky Dam began in 1938 to help allow for major river traffic on the Tennessee River and to help control flooding on the lower Mississippi River. The construction of the Dam and reservoir required the purchase of over 320,000 acres of land, with over 2600 families being relocated. Kentucky Lake was formed in the process – and boaters like the one in this photo take advantage of fishing near the Dam when the gates are closed.”
